I will will always Melvin for his kindness and patience. When I was a kid he would always take the time to teach me new things, especially practical things like leatherwork and making bird boxes. I remember one time he was helping me fix something on my bike and being an adolescent brat -- I must have been around 11 -- I squirted a bit of oil on the ground to watch it soak in. Melvin didn't show a flicker of annoyance or irritation. Instead, he patiently explained to me that that oil was wasted now, it could never be recovered, and that we should value and be careful with everything we have. For some reason it was a lesson that stuck with me, and it reminds me of a wonderful gentle soul. He will be much missed. My deepest condolences to Cynthia and Amy xx
